If these filters are not cleaned they will either plug up or allow solid particles to pass into the drainfield, causing the septic system to fail. Almost all septic tanks installed after 1975 have a manhole located in the cover, which is the access pumpers must by law use to pump your septic tank. It is essential to use this larger access hole in order to remove all of the solids from your septic tank.
